Dr. E's Bio!

Douglas Elmendorf grew up in Bensalem, PA, just outside of Philadelphia.  He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education and Performance from Ithaca College, and a Master of Music degree from the University of Massachusetts.  While working on his Master’s degree, Douglas had an opportunity to teach kindergarten in Senegal, West Africa.  It was then that he realized that he would spend the rest of his life working with and on behalf of children.  After moving to Maryland in 1998 to teach music for Baltimore County Public Schools, Douglas worked toward his certification in education administration.  He served seven years as an assistant principal until 2011 when he was appointed principal of Chase Elementary School for four years.  Dr. E. then became principal at Hillcrest Elementary for two years until he transitioned to Catonsville Middle School, where he currently serves.  He earned his doctorate in instructional technology from Towson University in May of 2012.  Dr. Elmendorf was also a part-time lecturer for the Department of Educational Technology and Literacy at Towson University from 2006 – 2015.  In January 2016, he became an adjunct faculty member in the College of Education at Johns Hopkins University.  Dr. Elmendorf has been married to the love of his life since July 2002, and has four wonderful children, including a set of twins!
